The history of the Victory symbol dates back to 1769.
Then, on November 26 or December 7 according to the new style, during the Russo-Turkish War, Empress Catherine II established an award for military officers, awarded for personal bravery shown on the battlefield, for especially courageous deeds or wise advice that led to victory over the enemy - the Order of St. George.
The recipient was entitled to a lifetime salary, after the death of the owner, the award named after St. George the Victorious was passed on by inheritance.
