The PDO area with protected designation of origin is located in the Kakheti region of Georgia. It extends from 250 to 700 meters above sea level near the town of Kvareli on the southern slopes of a branch of the Caucasus.

The vineyards cover 225 hectares, the majority of which are cultivated by the "Corporation Kindzmarauli" based in Kvareli.

The sweet red wine is a blend of the Saperavi and/or Saperavi Budeshuri varieties.

The ruby-red wine is characterized by a velvety, fruity aroma of berries.

Like the PDO wine Khvanchkara, it was one of the favorite wines of Josef Stalin (1878-1953).
